Manager and Senior Clinician
Marilyn Wilson
I come from New Zealand, where I graduated as an Occupational Therapist as a mature student. I worked in an inpatient rehabilitation unit before moving onto a Community Mental Health Team. It was while working in the community that I first became interested in working with people with a Dual Diagnosis (alcohol or/& drug problems). I became the Dual Diagnosis specialist within the team which developed my interest in Personality Disorders. I developed my skills in working with clients through training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy; Dialectical behavioral Therapy; and Narrative Family Therapy. I undertook two projects, one involved bringing a community rehabilitation service back to its grass roots and the other involved helping a community mental health team to work effectively together.
I came to the UK in 2004 and joined the Personality Disorder Service as manager and senior therapist. During my time in the service I have enjoyed sharing the journey to recovery of so many clients. It is an amazing experience to work with people who have the resilience to survive their struggles and through the support of staff in IMPART move through their struggle and into recovery and a quality of life they did not dare to dream of.
I live here in the UK while my children are in New Zealand and Australia. I currently enjoy gardening, DIY, the outdoors, street markets and travel. Prior to graduating as an Occupational Therapist I was in a self employment partnership for 18 years and my leisure activities at that time were pottery and furniture restoration.
